Ms. Hess graduated from Washington University School of Law in 1992 and earned a B.A. degree from the University of Rochester in 1987. She is admitted to practice in Maryland, Virginia, the District of Columbia, New York, New Jersey and the United States Supreme Court.

Ms. Hess is a member of the Family Law Section of the Maryland State Bar Association, Montgomery County Bar Association and Fairfax County Bar Associations.  She is a member of the Montgomery County Women’s Bar Association and Women’s Bar Association of Maryland.  Ms. Hess is a member of the Collaborative Divorce Association.  Ms. Hess is also a Fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers; admission is by examination and interview.  

Ms. Hess served as Co-Chair of the Family Law Section of the Montgomery County, Maryland Bar Association for which she won the Outstanding Section Chair of the Year Award.  Ms. Hess is a past President of the Prince George's County Women's Bar Association.  

In the past she has served on the Ethics and Professionalism committee of the Montgomery County Bar Association, and as a member of the Judicial Selections committee of the Women's Bar Association of Maryland.  Ms. Hess also served on the Ethics and Professionalism committee of the Montgomery County Bar Association.   Ms. Hess was also an Associate member of the American Inns of Court.  

Ms. Hess has been a speaker at Continuing Legal Education seminars for lawyers and educational seminars for the public. Ms. Hess has written several articles that have appears in the Montgomery County Bar Association Newsletter, and the Maryland Bar Association Family Law News.

Ms. Hess previously worked at the Law Offices of Cheryl Hepfer, as an associate and then a partner, from 1993-2010.  She also worked at the United States Department of Justice and the United States Senate Judiciary Committee, Subcommittee on Juvenile Justice.

Ms. Hess has been honored as a top lawyer by Super Lawyers, and Best Lawyers.
